COMMUNITY CLASSROOM: Teacher seeks funding for inclusive field day for students

BURGAW, N.C. (WECT) – A teacher at C.F.Pope Elementary School is hoping to raise enough money to buy water hoses, hose splitters and shut-off valves. Tina Croom, a third through fifth grade teacher, would like to buy the equipment to replace worn or outdated materials. They would be used during a field day for students. She’s asking for donations through DonorsChoose, an online charity that helps teachers get funding for school projects.

“New Field Day supplies will provide students with safe, engaging, and age-appropriate activities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit,” Ms. Croom said on her Donors Choose page. “These materials will have benefits beyond a single event or PE class. The equipment can be used throughout the school year by the physical education department, classroom teachers, and other staff for outdoor learning, movement activities, brain breaks, recess, special events, and school-wide celebrations.”

Ms. Croom needs $436. Once she is fully funded, Donors Choose will purchase the materials and deliver them to the school.
